Thanks for your post. From what science understands of Psoriasis today, psoriasis is due to our immune system and genes.

No harm in trying alternative therapy but please be safe. I would say - don't try anything that you have to ingest (drink or eat) unless someone else has tried it before and for a long time if data is possible. Sometimes in our need to get well, we may try some alternative medicine that may be harmful in the long term.

Nevertheless, do you research well and follow your instincts to be safe

Glad you have made your way to the forum.

For Acitretin, you will have to see a dermatologist before he/she can prescribe it to you. You will also have to visit the derm periodically for check ups. Where are you based?

I get mine from University Hospital in Petaling Jaya. If you are in PJ/KL, private message me and I will give you the doctor's name.

Sorry to hear that you have had P for 4+ years. I've had it for 6-7 years now.

With regards to your question about Acitretin, I'm currently on it. Let me know what you want to know about it and I'll do my best to help. It has brought me from 20-30% psoriasis to approx 1-2%. So it has been very helpful to me. The best thing is that I can finally wear short sleeves and also go to the gym without worrying about my P. My arms don not have P any more - except a little on my palms and fingers which are not that noticeable.

Some basic facts:
- 1 Tablet daily (approx RM7-8 per tablet). Hence you must be able to budget RM200-300 per month

- Started taking effect in 30 -60 days. Was fast for me.

- There are side effects such as dry lips, dry eyes and others which are usually dependent on the individual's reaction. No worries on this. I have lip balm and eye drops to manage these.

- If you're a guy, it is safer due to pregnancy complications 4 women.

- You will have to stay of alcohol. I've give this up anytime to keep P at bay

- You have to go for checkups with your derm every 1-3 months as it can raise cholesterol. Hence a diet change is necessary to keep cholesterol low + exercise helps too.

I am Ervin, from Penang. I have P for almost 4 years ++, have tried many cream and ointment from the derm. and i oso tried Methotrexate, it work well, but i guess my liver cant take it, so my derm advice me to stop. i have tired TIGA-SON, but is too expensive and cant affort. last time mine is like plague, but now seems like become red dot on top of plague. P almost cover my 70% of my body. and luckly is not on my face.
i heard some said Acitretin is good, then i may ask my derm for advice. i heard there is injection for P, almost 1k ++ per injection and need to take 12. , any idea bout that??

Hey.... that means your 1st anniversary is coming up soon ! So congratulations again in advance ... sorry 2-3 months in advance.

I have tried the Garra Ruffa in Pavillion Shopping Centre KL for a mere 30 mins. Quite ticklish at first and I wanted to laugh when they bite you. It is perfectly harmless.

I went with my wife and 2 other close buddies - we all had a go. One thing I noticed, when I put my feet in there (and I do have a few guttate patches on the soles) - the fish came to me instead of my wife and buddies who were sitting near me. Basically, the fish was more interested in me ! Haha ... these fish just love us P patients!

Another thing to watch out for - if you have severe psoriasis - you will need to inform the staff ahead and they may also recommend a private room. Cuz the answer was " Sorry Sir, we understand that P is non contagious but our customers don't ... and you may scare our customers away i.e. don't wanna sit in the same water as you"... Of course we understand - but then again it's kinda alienating to us .... but business is business.

I didn't see any immediate effect cuz I am also on Acitretin. The only way I can tell if I stop acitretin (noooooooo !!!!) and go with the fishes solely haha (nooooooo !!!)

aiyo .... i am way over here in borneo island in a lousy town called Sibu laaa..... yape ..i saw those shop with fishies eating ur skin. Kinda wanna try it. But then i thought, those fish only helps in skinning off the excess skins. U still need to use those steroid creams after that or moisturizer.

So anyone tried it yet. One reminder. Please DO NOT APPLIED any medication on the infected area when going there. You might see those poor fishies floating upside down on the surface if u do that. Lol.... food poisoning. Remember to share with us your experience?!

Yes ... I heard that the Icelandic govt (i think it was) does sponsor patients. How lucky yes?

Have you tried Garra Ruffa? There are alot of Garra Ruffa in KL now i.e. people have set up fish Spas. There is one in Bangsar, Pavillion and other parts of KL. I didn't try cuz my Acitretin is doing the job for me and the spas will cost you RM30 approx per half hour. So it cost you time and money. but if you have tried or know anyone who has tried and got results - please share.

Oh guys, by the way - i gave a small donation to the psoriasis association of America (online donation via credit card) and they started sending me postal newsletters all the way from America. However, I have stopped for this year but may do so again in the future. If you guys want to know the latest news and how the are advocating Psoriasis in the USA - you can do what I did i.e. give a donation.

After I read the newsletters - I really respect USA as a nation with regards to patient advocacy and how professional they attack the disease. They even lobby the government for funding to fight P i.e. research funding. Truly, the day I see this happening in Malaysia - I would be proud of my citizen rights.

yo arif ..... u aint qualified to complain about p yet. Some people have it their entire life. I had it since 17 years ago. there's been high and low about it.

And yeah ... u cant find any shortpant or singlet in my cupboard
But doh ..i'm married recently ...be brave guys. If you truly love someone .... u should go right up and tell her about our DEAR P. The results ....doh ...tell me about it when u try it.

yo dom ...i got referred from UH to GH dermatological department. Thats how i manage to get full treatment from GH. The doctor there told me UH dont have the medication required. That was a few years back. dunno now.

And arif ..THERE'S NO CURE FOR US P. Believe it....!!! The only thing you can do is learn to control your P through years of experience. Believe me ....i was suicidal in my teen years when the doc told me about it.

One simple tip .... KEEP MOISTURIZING!!!

Great to hear from you and welcome to the Psoriasis Malaysia Forum.

I take it that you are from KL since you are seeing Dr Allan Yee.

I have meet Dr Allan a few times and I am also a member of the Psoriasis Association of Malaysia.

Have you tried systemic treatment? As I have shared with other members here - I am currently on Acitretin/Soriatane and I find it working for me. My psoriasis is now only 2-3% from like having 30-40% covered in guttate psoriasis.

You can check this out at www.soriatane.com This medicine is available in Malaysia. Please ask Dr Allan Yee about it the next time you see him.

My derm is administering this for me at University Hospital.

hi guys,

just today i brave my self to search info about psoriasis. i have it for about 4 years++ and almost gave up. i do meet my derm regularly and he is dr. allan yee. after 4 years my psoriasis still growing starting from my scalp and now it becomes patches at my whole body.

i never wear short pant anymore. and i really shy to meet people and even i ended a one chance of marriage. currently i'm using daivonex n daivobet. as i read few forum here, its true because of these steroids, my patches psoriasis growing. dr. allan did advise me not to use regularly but i dont know what else should i take.

the so called cure by dr. azahmatol really gives me hope at first. but how can i afford if i have to buy 20 bottles at one time. huh!

i do hope with joining this forum will help me to face the psoriasis.
