I am using the following:

(a) Dr Pagano's diet (not strictly but at least 80% of it)
(b) Low Gluten (I find no gluten very difficult)
(c) No Seafood
(d) No alcohol
(e) Very Low sweeted drinks intake e.g. cola, ice lemon tea ,etc
(f) Organic food where possible

I don't restrict my diet in any way..i feel that since psoriasis occurs in all etnic groups and ppl frm all walks a=fo life and different diest patterns - i don't see a connection between diet intake and psoriasis...plus there's no prove that diet does effect psoriasis...however that does not mean we should not eat for healthily(i hope i spelt that right) for general health well being...

Do you manage your Psoriasis by choosing your types of food? Empty Diet

Post by Harjeet Tue Nov 06, 2007 1:13 pm

Hi All,

I hv eczema/psoriasis. Had psoriasis for the last 30 years, got eczema last year. Since then I have lost 25kg trying different kinds of diet. Just can't pinpoint which food is causing it. I have tried eliminating wheat , milk, even water (just drinking mineral water). I have stopped peanuts for 2 years now, no tomatos, stopped brinjals , no acar.. At one time I was on boiled food diet. Didn't help much

Hi Harjeet,

Glad to have found you here on the forum and welcome.

From my knowledge - there are a couple of diets available such as the Dr Pagano, non-gluten, organic, etc I would reckon that you need to try it out until you determine if it works for you.

I was on the Pagano diet that worked for awhile and then it stopped working altogether. Now I am on Acitretin/Soriatane (oral systemic medicine) which has reduced the psoriasis alot though I am still approx 10%-20% covered. Acitretin comes with some side effects. I have been on this drug for 3 months now.

If your psoriasis is systemic - you may want to consider systemic treatment.

Btw, if you are not already a Psoriasis Association of Malaysia member - perhaps you can sign up? If you are a member already - then no worries.

Should you have friends who have Psoriasis - please feel free to ask them to join this forum so that we can support each other with mutual exchange of information and discussion.

Take care - Dom.

Hi Harjeet,

I used to have eczema and it dissapeared after the psoriasis set in. I remember the eczema being very itchy compared to the psoriasis.

Have you seen a derm about it?

Have you tried non steroid topicals?

HI,
I am trying herbal treatment. Was on steroids for along time until I got married then switched to herbal. Now since eczema set in, I had to go back to steroids

Hi Harjeet,

With regards to your steroid - are you taking them topically or orally?
I'm sorry I don't have that much tactics to share with fighting Eczema as I switched over from Eczema to psoriasis and hence have been primarily battling psoriasis which using Soriatane/Acetritin helps. You can google it if you wish to know more.

Presume that you know if your eczema is atopic, contact or the other specific types?

I am using Sarna lotion (now available in Malaysia in pharmacies) for itch control and I find it helps manage the itch - at least until I can fall asleep. I hope this little bit of information may be helpful if you don't already use sarna lotion. Comes in a white bottle and I think it is the same company that produces PolyTar (coaltar soap).

Hi mate,
sorry for late reply. Not sure if I have contact or atopic eczema. Thanks for the tip on the lotion. I think I'll go find it and try out.

Incidently, I wanted to tell you where I am going for treatment for psoriasis. Have you heard of this place called Tg Tualang near Batu Gajah?. There's a doctor there using herbal treatment. I am on it, its a lot of help. Email me if you need more info.

Hi Harjeet,

Thanks for the reply and alerting about the herbal treatment. I heard about the doctor from my GP who is open to alternative or herbal medicine.

I am doing ok on Acitretin and I'm trying not to introduce anything new as I am also balancing some other meds for IBS.

With regards to your eczema - I remember doing internet research mainly on blogs for psoriasis and stumbled upon a lady in Singapore or Malaysia who had dedicated a large section of her blog on how she is fighting eczema. Perhaps you can google this or use http://blogsearch.google.com/ to find it.

Hope this helps.

Btw, are you a member of the Psoriasis Association of Malaysia? Membership is free.

Hi there ..just registered today. I'm a plague psoriasis patient since 10 years ago. Been receiving treatment in the KL GH and currently in Sibu GH. My medication consist mostly of external application of aqueos cream, LPC and bethamethasone cream. Tried MTX before. Not much side effect like some other people but not much improvement either. Currently is on lots of mostuirizing. I alternate between aqueos for mosturizing and bethamethasone. And seems like working.

And starting on GLA tablet daily, the Primrose Evening Oil tablet. Planning to take vitamin D3 also soon. Dunno if it works or not but there are claims that vitamin D3 helps.

And from the http://www.psoriasis-help.org.uk/forum/index.php here, people goes to the Dead Sea Jordan just to sun bath and some got cleared entirely for nearly a year. Kinda envied em since i cant afford to make the trip there.

Well, from my experience, other than beers and heavy alchohol, i never really control my diet. affraid

I asked my doctor about the dead sea thingy actually. He said there are several outcomes that might happen.

1) You get completely cleared.
2) Nothing happens.
3) Your P flares up.
4) Cleared and return again.

He said the UV THERE and HERE are different. So you can't really predict what will happen. Something like climate differences I guess? And if someone offered to sell you some Dead Sea Water, never ever buy it. Theoritically it won't work and won't make any difference.

Hi Qse 150,

If you are keen to try - you may wanna look up Dr Pagano on Amazon.Com
Or have you already heard of his diet methods

I tried his diet the first round and it worked ie 99% clear after following his diet for 6-9 months.

However, I had a very bad infection in my leg and the P flared up really badly. I went back on the diet the 2nd time round but it did not work.

However I do use his diet as a guideline and it comforts me.

Just something to share with you.

In KL, there are now alot of SPAs with the garra rufa fish. If you are familiar with the Dr fish treatment in Turkey, this is the same fish. I tried it for RM35 ringgit for half hour at the Pavillion KL but didn't see any improvement. Though I suspect you need to spend more time with the fish

Shocked

Anyways, personally I find it too expensive for this therapy. But if anyone has any insights and experience with the fishes - please post it here.

i think our immune system is much related to psoriasis. Imbalanced of nutrition in our body may one of the reason. For long term, we should stronger our immune system. I am not saying external treatment (oilment, cream n etc) is not good, but at the same time the internal treatment is the long term solution.

Do you manage your Psoriasis by choosing your types of food? Empty Diet is a must.

Post by rubenraj Mon Aug 17, 2009 1:44 pm

Food has always been a problem. Crying or Very sad I've stayed away from ice cream and cakes and chocolates for along long time, just only having a small nibble out of courtesy at functions or the curiousness for taste.

I've noted ice cream does give me a flare up one or two days after consumption. Maybe it was cheap ice-cream lol!

My next problem is to find out what vegetables and fruits can start a cycle.

Any experiences out there Question

Hi Rubenraj,

For the ice cream - i notice that I get my P triggered due to dairy (could be allergy that triggers the P - my derm said this may be possible). Let me know if you reckon this is for you as well?

As for vegetables and fruits that may trigger - Dr Pagano (see amazon.com) mentions the nightshades i.e. tomato, capsicum, etc ... I stay clear of these ... just in case !

Hope the above is helpful.
